Pastured Chicken

The average American eats about 26 chickens per year but we don't believe that those chickens should be average. Sheraton Park Farms raises our chickens on pasture. That means the birds are kept in a mobile coop or "tractor." Each day the chickens are moved onto a new patch of ground where they have access to grass, bugs and worms. The chickens are moved off of their manure and to a spot where they have a more natural diet. The birds are protected from predators while still having access to lots of sunshine and fresh air.

Pastured Pork

Sheraton Park Farms raises our pigs on pasture in a similar way to our chickens. To begin with, we raise heritage breed pigs. We've found them to be higher in quality and better tasting. Our pigs are kept in a paddock and moved about every 4 weeks onto a new pasture. They forage and root for bugs, worms, grasses nuts and roots to serve as a more natural diet. We provide plenty of clean, fresh water for the pigs to enjoy.

Most production pork is raised in a confinement house where they are exposed to pools of manure and no fresh air or sunshine. The difference can been seen in the color of our meat and noticed in the texture on the plate. An added benefit is seen on the ground. In one season, we've taken a barren soybean field and turned it into a lush green pasture just by having the pigs till the land.

Pastured Turkey

Turkeys were born to scratch and eat a grass based, omnivore diet including bugs and worms so that's exactly what they do on our farm. Pasture-raised turkeys are raised outdoors in a 5600 square foot, portable electrified netting area and moved weekly onto fresh pasture. They are also offered a locally sourced supplemental feed. They never receive antibiotics, artificial growth hormones or steroids.

Pastured turkey meat is lean yet tender, nutritious, and very flavorful. As is the case with other pasture-based meats, pasture-raised turkey is much higher in omega-3 fatty acids and has a better balance of omega-6 to omega-3 fats than factory-farmed turkey (whfoods.org). They are also rich in B vitamins, folate, biotin, and choline. Turkey is also high in selenium, providing over 60% of the daily reference intake in a 4-oz serving.

Grass-Fed Beef

Our grass fed beef is raised entirely on pasture grass and forages. Cattle are rotationally grazed to take advantage of their ability to fertilize and help improve the soil by allowing pastures to rest between grazing rotations. We never use herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers to ensure that our animals are not exposed those agents. This ensures your family is eating a high quality, locally raised product.

Local Honey

Did you know that honey has been called the "perfect food"? How about that honey has been found in Egyptian tombs that is estimated to be almost 3,000 years old and NOT spoiled? Did you also know that local honey is thought to be good for seasonal allergies?

The benefits of honey are endless. It is great as a sweetener for all kinds of recipes, its perfect on a big stack of pancakes or a hot biscuit.

At Sheraton Park Farms we love our bees. They are great for our garden and they produce some of the best tasting honey around. In keeping with our tradition of natural farming, we do not treat our bees with chemicals, antibiotics or other unnatural treatments. We strive to use the strongest genetics from year to year in order to have an abundance of bees and honey.
