We’ve been keeping honey bees for about 9 years now. There aren’t many other hobbies that can be as rewarding, and sometimes painful, as beekeeping.

A couple of weeks ago we purchased a small flock of sheep. 4 adult ewes (female sheep) with 7 lambs (sheep less than a year old). The lambs consisted of 3 rams (male lambs) and 4 ewes. All total 11 new animals on the farm.

We try very hard to be completely transparent about how our animals are cared for and raised. The industrial food system uses pastoral images in a way that is not entirely honest about how commercial food is produced.

Chickens are a little bit more complicated. The same review that couldn’t give any conclusive numbers about “organic” pork also couldn’t provide clear data for “organic” chicken.
